Saint Mary of The Angels Chicago Wedding | Cristina and Joshua

Cristina and Joshua were married in the heart of downtown Chicago at one of the most beautiful Catholic churches in the city. Their Catholic wedding mass was held at the stunning Saint Mary of the Angels Church and was a beautiful fusion of tradition, faith, and Cristina’s hispanic heritage.

They both got ready at a gorgeous hotel downtown and each room was just buzzing with excitement! Cristina and Joshua shared the sweetest and private first look together before we gathered their bridal party for some city photos Since the couple both got ready right near the Wrigley Building, we had only over to the iconic spots for portraits!

We arrived at St. Mary of the Angels and Cristina added on a beautiful overskirt and bollero to her already amazing bridal look! Joshua was overcome with emotion as his beautiful bride walked down the aisle. For those that do share a first look, just know that the walk down the aisle will still be SO special! One of the most memorable aspects of their wedding was the inclusion of two beautiful Hispanic traditions: the lasso and the coins, which added a profound layer of meaning and symbolism to the day.

The lasso ceremony, or “el lazo,” is a cherished Hispanic tradition that symbolizes the unification of two lives into one. During the wedding, a 15-decade rosary is placed around the couple in a figure-eight pattern, representing their infinite bond now rooted in Christ. Another significant tradition in Hispanic culture is the presentation of the arras, or wedding coins. This tradition involves the groom giving the bride thirteen coins, symbolizing his commitment to provide for their household and his trust in her to manage their resources wisely. The coins represent the couple’s shared responsibilities and their mutual support.

To Cristina and Joshua, thank you for allowing us to be a part of your beautiful day. Your wedding was a beautiful blend of tradition and modernity, faith and love, and it was a privilege to document the day that starts the beginning of your lives together!
