Before she was even engaged, Kelly reached out to inquire on our upcoming availability for the year. I was so shocked as I am huge fan of Kelly’s work! Kelly is the talented Catholic wedding planner behind By Kelly Kathleen – be sure to check her business out! She sees the ins-and-outs of the wedding industry every day and to be considered by another member of the wedding industry is a huge honor.
After meeting both Kelly and Ray last fall at Mary Claire and Michael’s wedding, it was clear there was a connection between the two that wasn’t going away. I could tell by just spending a quick dinner with them, that Ray was such a humble, steady, and kind man. The way he looked at Kelly with such love and respect in his eyes was just the sweetest! He was a perfect fit for a lady as special as Kelly. My fingers were crossed that an engagement would happen soon for them.
The proposal happened and Kelly and Ray shared their plans and dreams for the upcoming nuptials. I love when couples have a vision yet still want to collaborate to make their session ( and wedding day ) feel true to them. Kelly and Ray had a clear vision: timeless, elegant, and with heart. They wanted the images to reflect the deep love and respect they share for each other while encapsulating an old-school feel. Exactly the kind of photographs and style that we connect with and specialize in!
We settled on a downtown engagement session at The Detroit Institute of Arts and met just as the sun was rising above the tall city buildings. The DIA is one of my favorite city locations for engagement photos. Classic architecture, clean lines and marble, it’s always beautiful and effortless, no matter the season or time of day!
Kelly stunned in a sparkly white statement gown and classy pumps; Ray was her perfect complement in a sharp grey blazer. Their outfits popped so well against the soft marble and soaring architecture of the DIA! Time truly flies when you’re having fun, and I could have chatted with and photographed these two all day! Thankfully, the rain held off just as we were finishing, or I probably would have photographed them all day! You’ll just have to stay tuned for more portraits on their wedding day. 😉
I know Kelly and Ray’s wedding day details will be nothing short of breathtaking, but what we’re looking forward to most, is watching Kelly and Ray become one in the eyes of Christ. To witness them enter into the sacrament of marriage, surrounded by the people who love them our most favorite part of the wedding day.
Kelly and Ray, see you in the fall! We cannot wait and you are in our prayers every day!
